Upscaling is the process of increasing the resolution of an image or video while preserving or adding fine detail, so the enlarged result stays sharp rather than soft or blocky.

How it works

Traditional upscaling simply stretches the existing pixels and interpolates the gaps, which makes the image larger but softer. AI upscaling is different: a model trained on millions of images predicts what extra detail should exist at the higher resolution and generates it. It sharpens edges, reconstructs textures like skin, fabric, or foliage, and cleans up compression artifacts in the process. The model is not recovering information that was never there — it is synthesizing new, plausible detail that matches the content, which is why an AI-upscaled image can look convincingly high-resolution even when the source was small.

Why it matters

Resolution determines where an image can be used. A picture that looks fine on a phone may fall apart on a billboard, a poster, or a 4K screen, and tight crops quickly expose a low pixel count. Upscaling lets you take a composition you already like and make it large enough for those uses without re-shooting or regenerating from scratch. It is also a finishing step: you lock in the content first, then enlarge it cleanly. The trade-off is that invented detail can occasionally differ from reality, so upscaling is best on images you have already approved.

In eaxy

eaxy supports high-resolution output, with exports up to 4K on higher plans, so the images and frames you generate are large and sharp enough for print, presentations, and big screens. That means you can move from prompt to a finished, high-resolution asset without leaving the studio or chasing a separate upscaling tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is upscaling?+

It is increasing the pixel resolution of an image or video. AI upscaling does this intelligently, adding plausible new detail so the larger result stays sharp instead of looking blurry or pixelated.

How is AI upscaling different from just resizing?+

Plain resizing stretches existing pixels, which softens or blocks the image. AI upscaling generates new detail that fits the content, so edges and textures stay crisp at the larger size.

Does upscaling add real detail?+

It adds plausible detail, not recovered detail. The model invents texture consistent with the image; it cannot reveal information that was never captured.

When should I upscale?+

Upscale when you need a higher-resolution version for print, large screens, or fine cropping, after you are happy with the base image.
