A commercial license is the legal permission a tool or rights holder grants you to use AI-generated images and video for business and revenue-generating purposes.

A commercial license defines what you are allowed to do with the content you create. Without one, output may be limited to personal, non-commercial use. With one, you can put generated assets into advertising, products, client deliverables and paid campaigns.

How it works

When you generate an image or video, two distinct questions arise: who, if anyone, owns the copyright, and what you are permitted to do with the result. A commercial license answers the second question. It is a grant of usage rights set out in a platform's terms of service or a specific plan tier.

Typical commercial licenses are non-exclusive (others may create similar work), worldwide and perpetual (the right does not expire when you cancel). They usually cover advertising, merchandise, social media for brands, and work delivered to clients. They commonly exclude reselling the raw generation capability itself or claiming the output is human-made where that would be deceptive.

Copyright is a separate matter. In several jurisdictions, work created entirely by AI without meaningful human authorship may not qualify for copyright protection at all. A commercial license does not change that legal question — it simply gives you permission to use the asset for business, which is what most creators actually need.

Why it matters

Using AI content commercially without the right license exposes you to terms-of-service violations and potential takedowns. For freelancers, agencies and brands, a clear commercial license is the difference between safely shipping a campaign and risking a dispute. It also signals which plan tier you need: many tools reserve commercial rights for paid plans.

In eaxy

eaxy includes a commercial license on its Pro and higher plans, so images and video you generate can go straight into ads, client work and products you sell. Because eaxy has no free tier, paying subscribers get clear commercial usage from the start rather than a watermarked or personal-use-only output.

Frequently asked questions

What does a commercial license let me do?+

It lets you use generated images and videos in revenue-generating contexts — advertising, marketing, products for sale, social content for brands and paid client work — rather than personal use only.

Do I own the copyright to AI images?+

Copyright on purely AI-generated work is unsettled and varies by country. A commercial license is separate: it is the platform's grant of permission to use the output commercially, regardless of who holds copyright.

Is a commercial license the same as exclusive rights?+

No. A commercial license permits commercial use but is usually non-exclusive — others can generate similar content. Exclusivity would mean no one else may use that specific asset, which most AI tools do not offer.
