Sora

Sora is OpenAI's text-to-video AI model, capable of generating high-quality, cinematically coherent video clips up to a minute long from text prompts.

How it works

Sora uses a diffusion transformer architecture that generates video by denoising a sequence of latent frames simultaneously. This approach gives it strong temporal consistency — subjects remain stable across frames, motion is smooth, and the overall clip feels like coherent footage rather than a slideshow of images. The model can interpret complex prompts involving multiple subjects, camera movements, and scene transitions.

Why it matters

Sora demonstrated that AI video could reach a level of quality and duration suitable for real creative work — not just short clips for social media, but narrative-length content. Its ability to maintain consistency over longer durations set a new benchmark for the field.

Limitations

Despite its quality, Sora has limitations: it can still produce physics errors (objects passing through each other, impossible motion), the generation process is slow, and availability has been restricted. For production use, complementary models like Kling 3 offer faster generation with good quality for shorter clips.
