Interpolation

Interpolation creates intermediate frames between existing video frames to smooth motion or enable slow-motion. AI video models use it to extend clips and increase frame rate without re-generating from scratch.

Interpolation is the process of generating intermediate frames between existing video frames to create smoother motion or slow-motion effects. It synthesizes in-between frames by analyzing the movement between adjacent originals.

How it works

Given two frames — frame A and frame B — interpolation algorithms analyze the visual difference between them and generate one or more intermediate frames that transition smoothly from A to B. In AI video, neural networks predict what the "missing" frames should look like based on the motion patterns, object trajectories, and scene geometry inferred from the surrounding frames.

Why it matters

Interpolation lets you stretch a short AI-generated clip into a longer one without re-running the expensive generation process. A 2-second clip at 24 FPS can be interpolated to 4 seconds at 24 FPS by doubling the frames, or to 2 seconds at 48 FPS for smoother motion. This is especially valuable when generation credits are limited.

In eaxy

Eaxy uses interpolation to extend video clips and create slow-motion effects from generated content. When you animate a still image, interpolation fills in the motion between the original frame and the model's predicted end state, producing a smooth cinematic clip.

Preguntas frecuentes

What does interpolation do in AI video?+

Interpolation generates new frames between existing ones, smoothing motion or enabling slow-motion effects. It effectively increases the frame rate of a video without regenerating the entire clip.

What is the difference between frame interpolation and frame rate?+

Frame rate is how many frames per second a video has. Interpolation is the technique used to add frames to increase that rate. A 24 FPS video interpolated to 60 FPS has 36 new AI-generated frames inserted between the originals.

Does interpolation reduce video quality?+

Good interpolation preserves quality while adding smoothness. Poor interpolation can introduce artifacts or blur in fast-moving scenes. Eaxy uses high-quality interpolation that maintains detail.
